Italian Caprese Salad (Tomato, Mozzarella, and Basil Salad)

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe tomatoes
  • 250g (9 oz) fresh mozzarella
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Slice tomatoes and mozzarella into even rounds.
  2. Layer on a plate, alternating slices of tomato and mozzarella.
  3. Add basil leaves between slices.
  4. Drizzle olive oil over the salad.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, and optional balsamic glaze.
  6. Serve immediately at room temperature.

Notes

Use ripe, in-season tomatoes for the best flavor.

Fresh mozzarella makes a big difference—avoid shredded or low-moisture types.

Add a few drops of balsamic vinegar or glaze if you like a sweet-tangy touch.

For a twist, try adding avocado, grilled peaches, or a few olives.
