Why Make These French Toast Muffin Cups
These muffins are great for special occasions but are still easy enough to whip up for breakfast before school. Muffins are always a winner. They’re something the whole family will indulge in without complaints, and to me, that’s always a win.
Let’s Gather The Ingredients
- Milk: You could use whole milk, 2% or heavy cream for a richer, more tender option.
- Sweetness: granulated sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and optional powdered sugar
- Eggs
- Spices:Â cinnamon and nutmeg
- Croissants:Â You can also use brioche bread, challah bread, French bread, or even white bread.
- Butter: Cold for streusel topping
- All purpose flour: Adds the perfect texture to the streusel topping.
Recipe Tips
- The next time you make these muffins, try some add ins. Mix in mini chocolate chips, chopped pecans, or diced apples for extra flavor and texture.
- Always check that your muffins are done in the middle before serving. The easiest way to do this is by inserting a toothpick or fork into the middle of the muffins and see what comes out. If it has wet batter, the muffins will need more baking time. If it comes out clean or with a few crumbs from the streusel topping, the muffins should be finished baking.
- These muffins can be served at room temperature but I think they’re best when the are served warm with a drizzle of warm maple syrup.
