Ingredients for taco dip

Notes

  • Ground beef: You can also use ground turkey or ground chicken.
  • Taco seasoning: Prepackaged store bought taco seasoning or you can also make my homemade taco seasoning recipe.
  • Refried beans: I prefer to use the Jalapeño canned refried beans, but you can use traditional or even refried black beans.
  • Salsa: A thick salsa works best!
  • Cheese: I use shredded cheddar cheese and pepper jack cheese but you can use whatever kind you like.
  • Olives: I like black olives.
  • Onions: I prefer red onions but white onions will also work.
  • Chips: Fritos or tortilla chips work great.

How to make taco dip

  • Step 1: Heat a large skillet on medium-high heat and brown ground beef and then drain the fat.
  • Step 2: Add in the taco seasoning.
  • Step 3: Spread a layer of refried beans on the bottom of an oven-safe skillet or casserole dish.
  • Step 4: Add a layer of salsa over the refried beans.
  • Step 5: Spread the ground beef layer over the salsa.
  • Step 6: Sprinkle the cheese over the top and bake, then add your favorite toppings.

Recipe tips

  • I highly recommend shredding your own cheese and not using pre-shredded cheese from the package.
  • I like to use a cast-iron skillet for this delicious taco dip because it holds the heat and keeps the dip warm but a baking dish also works.
  • A great way to use leftover taco meat if you have it.
