The fall season is the time for all the fun apple recipes. Breakfast hours call for some Crock Pot Apple Cinnamon Roll Casserole (maybe even with some of this apple sauce on top!) and after dinner means it’s time for some Caramel Apple Crisp, a side of Blooming Grilled Apples, or a large slice of Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake.
Why You Should Make This Easy Applesauce
The best part is that the whole house smells incredible while the applesauce is slow cooking all day.
Making applesauce is the perfect way to use any extra apples that you buy when they’re on sale or you just got back from a long day of apple picking. A bonus to this recipe is that it even turns older apples into delicious applesauce. Since the apples cook down for so long, you won’t even know that they were a little past their prime.
Let’s gather The Ingredients
- Apples:Â Any large apples will work
- Liquids: Water and fresh lemon juice
- Sweetness:Â Granulated sugar, cinnamon, and fresh ground nutmeg
How Do I Make This Slow Cooker Applesauce
- Step 1: First, clean, peel, core, and cut your apples into quarters. Toss apple pieces in the Slow Cooker with the rest of the ingredients before tossing to combine.
- Step 2: Cook until apples soften. Use a fork or potato masher to break up any large apple chunks that still remain.Â
Recipe Tips
- Any types of apple will make tasty applesauce. I used Golden Delicious apples because that’s what I had on hand. But, whatever you have will work. Honeycrisp, Gala, Pink Lady, Fuji, Red Delicious, or any other types of apples will all work just fine.
- Depending on which variety of apples you choose, you may need to adjust the amount of sugar used in the recipe.
- While the lemon adds a slight pop of freshness to this homemade applesauce, you can brighten it up a bit more with a splash of vanilla extract.Â
- This can be cooked on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 5-6 hours.
